City police say a collision at John and Faircrest Streets have resulted in serious injuries for a 22-year-old cyclist.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say it is alleged that a car driven by a 71-year-old Thunder Bay woman was turning south onto Faircrest from John Street and came into collision with the male cyclist.

The collision occurred just after 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the cyclist was traveling eastbound on John Street at the time of the crash.

The victim was taken to the hospital and he is now listed as being in serious condition.

Police officials confirmed Friday afternoon that the 71-year-old driver had been charged with careless driving.

The traffic unit is still investigating and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
