Severe thunderstorm warning issued

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the City of Thunder Bay.

Environment Canada is now reporting that a line of strong to severe thunderstorms extending from near Cameron Falls southwest across suomi then into Northeastern Minnesota will cross the Lakehead area at Thunder Bay then move out over Western Lake Superior near 6.30 p.m..

The thunderstorms may produce 2-to-3 centimetre hail and wind gusts of 100 km/h.

Intense lightning and torrential downpours are possible as well.

Severe thunderstorms are imminent or occurring in the area. These storms may produce large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall. Severe thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes.

Monitor weather conditions and take immediate safety precautions if threatening weather approaches.

A strong cold front ploughing across Northwestern Ontario will trigger thunderstorms this evening. There is potential for the thunderstorms to become severe with damaging winds, large hail, torrential downpours and intense lightning possible.
