Severe thunderstorm warning issued for the city of Thunder Bay.

THUNDER BAY -- A national weather service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the city, warning for the potential of strong winds, large hail and heavy rain.

Environment Canada issued the advisory Thursday evening, warning conditions were favourable for developing severe thunderstorms that could produce wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour, hail and heavy rain.

Environment Canada said the city should expect about 50 millimetres of rain overnight.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop early in the evening and after midnight with fog patches developing overnight.

Environment Canada wants to remind people to stay indoors as lightning kills and injuries Canadians every year.
