SIOUX LOOKOUT – A suspected sex offender wanted for alleged sexual assaults on young boys between 2010 and 2012 in Kasabonika First Nation and Sandy Lake First Nation has died.

Casey Ignatius MacDonald was arrested last month in Calgary on a Canada-wide warrant by the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, with the assistance of the Calgary Police Service’s integrated apprehension unit.

He was charged with sexual interference with a person under 16 years, sexual assault, forcible confinement and sexual exploitation.

NAPS officials learned last week that the suspect had died on Feb. 9 because of health-related issues. MacDonald was next scheduled to appear in Kenora court on March 11.

NAPS’ crime unit is in the process of notifying victims of MacDonald’s death.

Police encourage any of MacDonald’s alleged victims to seek counselling if they're not already doing so.
