THUNDER BAY - Young professionals are being encouraged to meet and network with other like-minded individuals as a way of mentoring one another in the pursuit of ongoing success.
This week marks Young Professionals Week across Ontario and Shift, the city’s own young professional network, will be hosting two special events.
“It’s promoting networking for young professionals and mentorship and different events to stay connected,” said Shift vice president, Hannah Gladstone.
“It’s celebrating the young professionals in our community. They are all around and they are helping drive our community forward and they are the next generation of professionals in Thunder Bay and across Ontario and just recognizing them and giving them a chance to celebrate their successes and their future.”
Shift will holds its annual general meeting at the Lakehead University Outpost Tuesday evening that is open only to members but membership can be obtained at any time.
Then on Friday it will be hosting a speed networking lunch at the Sleeping Giant Brewery.
“It is super fun, fast paced and a great opportunity to meet different young professionals,” Gladstone said.
Shift assists young professionals by promoting networking and collaboration through various events held throughout the year.
Gladstone said joining the network after coming to Thunder Bay from Toronto really helped her establish herself in her chosen career and she believes many others can experience similar benefits.
“It was a really great opportunity for me to meet other young professionals because it’s hard when you are starting,” she said. “You sometimes feel unsure of yourself or you need advice and it’s a great network I found people to connect with not only in my professional, but across professions.”
