THUNDER BAY — A ship that experienced a fire in its engine room at the eastern end of Lake Superior has arrived in Thunder Bay for assessment and repairs.

The Radcliffe R. Latimer, owned by Algoma Central Corporation, was carrying a load of petroleum coke from Superior, Wisc., to Port Daniel, QC when the fire occurred on Aug. 11.

None of the 21 crew members was reported injured, and the blaze was extinguished with an installed CO2 system.

After anchoring in Whitefish Bay for an extended period, the ship reversed direction to head for Thunder Bay where it tied up at the Mid-Continent Terminal on the weekend.

The terminal is located at the former CN ore dock and the former Northern Wood Preservers property on Maureen Street.
