The Port of Thunder Bay is witnessing a promising start to its shipping season.
Latest figures from the Port Authority show almost a million tonnes of cargo has been shipped so far this year, which is a jump of about 10 per cent over totals at the same point last season.
While grain shipments are lagging behind the pace set in 2009, the shortfall has been made up by increased volumes in coal and potash.
Ship traffic is also up, with 45 vessels having entered port already this year, that compares to 36 at this point in 2009.
