Shoal Lake confirms positive COVID-19 case in community

An individual receiving medical care in Winnipeg tested positive for COVID-19 upon return to the community.

SHOAL LAKE, Ont. - A community member in Shoal Lake No. 40 has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a letter sent to community members, the Shoal Lake No. 40 band said a member of the community who was receiving medical services at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg has tested positive.

An outbreak has been declared at the hospital and the individual was tested in Winnipeg and again upon returning to the community as part of its pandemic procedures.

The test in the community returned a positive result.

The pandemic planning team in the community said the case is isolated and the individual is self-isolating and there were no close contacts with other members of the community.

The pandemic planning team is asking everyone in the community to remain vigilant and continue to practice all public health guidelines.

This is the first reported case of COVID-19 in the community located near the Manitoba border.
