SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. — Two hunters from southern Ontario are paying a steep price for illegal hunting activity.

A Justice of the Peace in Sioux Lookout has levied fines totalling $11,000 against a man from Toronto and another from Tottenham.

Court heard that in October 2020, conservation officers conducted a moose decoy operation on the Star Creek Road, in response to historical unsafe hunting practices and other violations related to party-hunting observed in the same area.

The two men were observed firing shots down a forestry road in the direction of the decoy.

Four shots were fired in total.

Both men pleaded guilty to careless use of a firearm.

One had his licence suspended for two years, while the other's was suspended for one year.

Each will also have to successfully complete the Ontario Hunter Education course.
