Thunder Bay MP Patty Hajdu is among those expressing her condolences after learning one of the four people killed in La Loche, Sask. was a graduate of Lakehead University.
Adam Wood was killed on Friday when a shooter fired at people at two locations, including a high school in the community of 3,000.
“My heart goes out to the family of Adam Wood, a proud Lakehead alumni, and to all of those who lost loved ones in La Loche,” Hajdu tweeted on Saturday.
Wood, 35, was a native of Uxbridge, Ont. and was a teacher at La Loche High School. Also killed were 21-year-old Marie Janvier and brothers Dayne and Drayden Fontaine.
Police say another seven people were wounded in the rampage and a 17-year-old male suspect is in custody and charged with four counts of first-degree murder. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Wood’s family released a statement on Saturday afternoon.
“Our family, Adam’s partner, friends and community are devastated by the news that Adam Wood was a victim in the La Loche shooting. He died Friday, January 22nd.
“Adam had just begun his teaching career in La Loche last September and was enjoying his time. Adam was quite an adventurer, had a passion for life and would often make you laugh until your stomach hurt. He was always up for a good challenge and lived each day joyously.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the other victims, the community of La Loche and everyone who is affected by this tragedy.”
While in Thunder Bay, it's believed Wood had ties to the Roots to Harvest program.
