A woman is in custody following an attempted armed robbery at a north side pharmacy.

Police on Tuesday said the suspect entered the Red River Road Shoppers Drug Mart and allegedly produced a knife, demanding narcotics.
“The female attempted to gain entry into the safe but was unsuccessful. She was followed as she fled the business on foot, heading toward the Picton Steet area,” police spokeswoman Julie Tilbury said in a release.

“Officers were alerted to her location and she was pointed out in the backyard of a Picton Street residence. She was arrested at gunpoint without incident.”

Police said they recovered a knife nearby.

The woman, who has not been named by police, was charged with robbery, disguise with intent and weapons dangerous.

She is expected to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
