At least one area municipality is feeling the pinch, in the wake of the recently announced five per cent wage increase for OPP officers.
The impact of the increase on Shuniah's municipal budget was the main topic of discussion at Tuesday evening’s Shuniah Police Services Board meeting.
Board Chair Don Smith said the pay hike will cost the municipality an extra $30,000 a year, which is a lot of money for a small community, he adds.
Shuniah currently operates with a police budget of about $600,000.
