Single vehicle collision sends two to hospital

A single vehicle collision on Saturday sent two people to hospital with injuries.

MARATHON – Two men were taken to hospital following a single vehicle collision over the weekend.

According to an Marathon/Manitouwadge Ontario Provincial Police release, officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision Saturday around 1:20 p.m. on Highway 17, about 30 kilometres west of White River near White Lake Narrows Bridge.

The vehicle had been traveling west when it left the roadway coming in contact with a rock.

Police said a male was walking around on the roadway and one other male was lying on the roadway.

Both occupants were transported to hospital for treatment.

A 28-year-old of Pic Mobert was treated and later released with minor injuries.

The other occupant, a 27-year-old of Batchewana First Nation was transferred by Air Orange to the Thunder Bay Regional Science Centre in critical condition to receive further treatments.

Highway 17 was closed at the MVC while OPP Technical Traffic Control Investigators conduct their investigation.

After approximately 3.5 hours one lane was able to be opened to intermediate traffic.

The road was completely open by 7:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing at this time as to the cause of the collision.
