MANITOUWADGE, Ont. -- An 83-year-old man died after his pickup truck struck a rock cut on Highway 614.
The single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck travelling northbound on the highway happened Monday afternoon about 25 kilometres south of Manitouwadge.
Emergency responders including OPP officers from the Marathon and Manitouwadge detachment, firefighters from the Manitouwadge Fire Department and Superior North EMS paramedics attended the scene where the driver, who was the lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Julian Hawarish of Manitouwadge has been identified as the victim of the crash.
The highway was completely closed for about an hour and then reduced to one lane for eight hours while the OPP's technical traffic collision investigation unit conducted a probe of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
