Sioux Lookout house fire leaves one dead

Police say next of kin notifications will be made upon confirmation of the deceased’s identity.

SIOUX LOOKOUT - One person is dead after a fire broke out in a Sioux Lookout home early on Thursday morning.

Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police along with fire crews and emergency medical services responded to the blaze on First Avenue at approximately 6 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, according to a news release. Two youths were extracted from the building and neighbouring units were safely evacuated.

A third person was located by firefighters deceased. Police say next of kin notifications will be made upon confirmation of the deceased’s identity.

A Fire Marshall has been called to investigate the cause of the blaze, the release said.

—This story was updated at 2:17 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020. OPP initially stated three youths were extracted from the building but at the time of the fire there were only two individuals were removed from the building. A third individual was not at the residence at the time of the fire.
