Residents at the supportive housing complex on Lillie Street celebrated a special gift Thursday, as part of Seniors Month in the city.
Residents at the Sister Leila Greco Apartments were excited to receive a Tree of Life mural from students at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute. The idea originated from a trip that one of the staff from St. Joseph's Care Group took to Ottawa.
They had seen a similar mural in a retirement home there and wanted something for the Greco apartments.
Several letters were sent out, and it was Westgate that stepped up to the challenge. Client Councillor Cathy Webster helped get the project rolling and up on the wall.
Stevenson adds that it's a great opportunity for getting the students out and working in the community, as well as adding to their curriculum.
To get a look at the mural, watch the Thursday evening TBT Newshour. You can see that episode online Friday afternoon.
