THUNDER BAY – The province’s Special Investigation Unit will not move forward with charges against city police following the death of a man in custody.
The SIU was investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 44-year-old man who died while in the custody of the Thunder Bay Police Service in August 2014.
SIU officials say the man was arrested after being found unconscious and heavily intoxicated on Aug. 2.
The next morning the man was found unresponsive in his cell.
SIU investigators say the death was linked to the man’s diabetes and chronic alcohol use along with septicemia.
