Six puppies killed in structural fire

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a structural fire around midnight that left moderate damage.

FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION, Ont. – Six puppies were killed in a fire that started early Friday morning in Fort William First Nation.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a call of a structural fire around 12 a.m. on the 100 block of Back Street.

First arriving unit encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the back of the building, a second alarm was called bringing in a total of six pumpers an aerial ladder and command vehicle.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue officials say the fire was quickly brought under control.

The first arriving unit did a search of the building confirming all occupants had got out safely.

There was only moderate damage to the structure.

Fire officials say there were no injuries to firefighters or occupants on scene, but six puppies were killed in the blaze.
