THUNDER BAY -- The temperature bounce on Monday made the Family Day holiday feel like coming up for air.
Snow sculptures formed the central attraction of Snowday at Prince Arthur's Landing. The nine entries represented the theme “True North," a collection regional scenery and culture carvings as well as a number of fantasy animals.

Thunder Bay events supervisor Ash Young has been watching nine teams of snow carvers whittling their craft since Thursday night. He said he’s thrilled with the results.
“It’s the type of thing you think, ‘it’s amazing,’” Young said.
“It’s being built right on the spot since Thursday night so you’re watching them, then when you come down here today just three days later to see what they’ve created. It’s amazing and now it can be shared."
Young expects the city will recruit carvers from outside of Thunder Bay next year, estimating the number of snow sculptures in the harbour could double.
