THUNDER BAY -- Soldiers carrying weapons are taking to the forest north of Thunder Bay this weekend.

Fifty members of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment, 18 Service Company/38 Service battalion, 3 Squadron/38 Signal Regiment and 18 Field Ambulance are conducting an exercise in the area of No Name Lake Road off Magone Road and Highway 527.

A spokesperson for the LSSR says the aim of the exercise is to practice defensive operations involving a combined unit operation.

The soldiers will establish communications required to operate in adverse terrain, operate a combined unit Command Post and practice medical evacuation.

The military is advising members of the public that the exercise will be a daytime and nighttime operation and that they should take caution in the exercise area.

Military vehicles will be operating in the vicinity of Magone Road from Friday through Sunday.

Although the soldiers will carry weapons, they will use blank ammunition.
