THUNDER BAY -- If you’ve been planning on taking your skates to the city’s outdoor rinks, than the recent cold weather may just help out.
The cold days and nights mean that some outdoor rinks are ready ahead of schedule.
City Parks Manager Paul Fayrick confirmed that in the north end rinks at John Kusznier Park and Third and High Park are ready.
Meanwhile, there are a number of rinks to skate on early on the city’s southside.
“In the south, just about all of the rinks are ready,” Fayrcik said. “Minnesota is open, Frank Charry Park is open, West Thunder has skateable ice and so does the Wayland and even Tarbutt I believe.
“Pretty much if someone is in a neighbourhood and there is a rink close by, I’d suggest they go out and have a look to see what the ice is like.”
Fayrick added that although the rinks are ready to skate on, staff that maintain those rinks will not start work until Dec. 14.
