SPCA officials say a veterinarian has examined about 40 horses, cows and pigs on the property of an O’Connor Township farm, and filed compliance orders against the 83-year-old property owner.
The compliance orders follows an investigation that began after a Facebook page was created to publicize concerns some people had about the animals living on the property.
Members of the Facebook page said the animals appeared to have no food, water or proper shelter.
SPCA spokeswoman Alison Cross said the owner is being co-operative, and is complying with the orders.
She added that their inspectors are making sure the animals get the care they require, but said it takes time to carry out all the orders.
Meanwhile, another Facebook page, titled TBay Animal Defense Are Unfair, has been created to support the owner of the animals. The supporters of that group say the property owner is not mistreating the animals he owns.
The pages info states that “the real truth is that all the animals are well fed and given water daily.” The creator of the page also says people who believe the animals are being mistreated should visit that Facebook page and ask questions about the photographs they’ve seen that allegedly show uncared for farm animals.
As for the members of the group that originally voiced their concerns, they are not satisfied with the actions taken so far. A petition is now circulating that asks for the animals to be removed from the property.
