THUNDER BAY -- Animal cruelty is suspected after the bodies of two cats were found in bags in the city's Northwood area.

Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals agents were called on July 10 where they found the bodies of two cats near the Limbrick Street residential complex.

The bodies of two domestic short-haired cats -- one grey and white and the other black and white -- had been left inside a black garbage bag and a yellow plastic shopping bag.

The SPCA says a necropsy revealed that both animals died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Neither cat had a tag or a microchip.

SPCA Senior Inspector Lynn Michaud in a news release on Monday said that "Foul play is suspected...and we would like the person responsible for the horrible death of these cats (to be) held accountable."

The Thunder Bay and District  Humane Society and the Ontario SPCA are asking anyone with information about the incident or about the owners of the cats is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or 310-SPCA.
