THUNDER BAY – A Thunder Bay man convicted of accessing child pornography in a 2010 province-wide sweep is behind bars again after being caught with a nine-year-old girl.

Michael Danial Bewcyk, 70, a former school custodian, was charged with breach of probation after police observed him late Sunday afternoon speaking to two young girls, one of whom was riding on Bewcyk's electronic bike without a helmet.

That led to a traffic stop, which enabled police to identify both the girl and Bewcyk, who under court order is prohibited from communicating with or being around children younger than 16.

After police discovered the conditions of Bewcyk’s probation, he was taken into custody, where he remains, after appearing in court on Monday.

Eight years ago Bewcyk was one of 35 people charge in a child-pornography sweep. He was also charged with fraud of more than $5,000 and impersonation.
