The new splash pad at Thunder Bay's waterfront will have its grand opening on Friday.

The fountains have been shooting water since last Friday, as city staff continued to test out the infrastructure before the splash pad’s official debut.

But some city residents and their children are already flocking to Prince Arthur's Landing to try it out ahead of time. The fountain at the baggage arts building is also being tested at this time.

Some local residents have expressed concerns about the fountains flowing while Thunder Bay was in the midst of water restrictions for the sewage treatment plant.  But a city spokesperson says all the water used at the splash pad and the fountain is recycled, and does not go down the drain.

Officials with the city add that the splash pad is safe to use right now, for any families wanting to enjoy it this week.
