THUNDER BAY -- Lawsuits are piling up over the stalled condo development at the Thunder Bay Country Club.

At least eight statement of claims totalling more than $7.2-million have been filed in Ontario Superior Court over defaults on payments to firms which have worked on the project.

One firm, Magest Building Systems from Stratford, is seeking $6.2-million for the work the company has performed to date.

The statement of claim names The Club Residence Developments Inc, Thunder Bay Country Club and officers of the Club as defendants.

Magest has worked on the fabrication, design and wall structures.

The Ottawa-based lawyer for the company says there are constant discussions with developer, Robert Zanette.

Many local firms also have filed suits against the Country Club and Club Residence, alleging defaults on payments including LTL Contracting for more than half a million dollars.

A statement of defence filed by the Country Club in that claim says the Club is seeking more than $100,000 from Zanette for rental arrears.

The six-storey project got underway in 2012, and was stalled several times before grinding to a halt last year due to financial difficulties.
