Trying to take a short cut led to several charges for a man early Sunday morning.

Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision at the Boulevard Lake dam around 4:30 a.m. Fire officials had removed two men from the car when police got there.

It’s alleged that the 19-year-old driver tried to drive along the Boulevard Lake footpath from Gibson Avenue to his home on Adelaide Street. When the path narrowed, the vehicle fell down a 30-foot embankment to the rocks below the dam, police say.

While the car was destroyed, no injuries were reported. The man has a court date on Sept. 4. He was charged with impaired driving, drive over 80 mg’s of alcohol, dangerous driving and possession of a narcotic.
