THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Police Service says there is no threat to public safety following an incident Wednesday in the Academy Heights area.
Multiple units were deployed to the residential neighbourhood, including officers wearing tactical gear with their weapons drawn, for an extended period.
About half a dozen police vehicles were dispatched to the vicinity of Trillium Court shortly before 11:30 a.m.
At 3:22 pm, TBPS issued a statement saying "a significant police response...has concluded," but there was no explanation for what had transpired.
A spokesperson subsequently clarified that police had been acting on the basis of "information initially received," and that a subsequent investigation revealed that information was unsubstantiated.
