THUNDER BAY -- A potentially potent Thunder Bay North Stars attack just got a lot better.
The Superior International Junior Hockey League club on Thursday announced its bringing back forward Michael Stubbs, 18, who spent last season with the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League.
Stubbs, who spent the 2018-19 campaign with the Stars, scored 25 goals and added 16 assists in 42 appearances as an SiJHL rookie. He managed just four goals and five points in 40 games with the Steelheads last season.
The North Stars weren't the only SIJHL team that made a move on Thursday.
The Kam River Fighting Walleye announced they have signed defenceman Joe McCollum, who split last season between the North American Hockey League's St. Cloud Blizzard and the Central Canada Hockey League's Pembroke Lumber Kings.
McCollum had eight points in 40 games in 2019-20 and said he's excited to be back in Thunder Bay.
“It’s great to be back in my hometown for hockey again,” said McCollum, in a release.
“With everything going on this year it’s nice to have solid ground again. Excited to see what we can begin to build in our inaugural season and in the future."
The Stars and Fighting Walleye continue play in the eight-game Teleco Cup series on Friday and Saturday night at the Norwest Arena. The North Stars took both games last weekened, winning 5-4 on Friday night and 4-2 in Saturday's rematch.
