THUNDER BAY -- Construction is still underway at the site of two new residence buildings at Confederation College but administration is confident the buildings will be complete by the time students arrive in 11 days.

Siding is incomplete and none of the furniture or appliances have yet arrived for Spruce and Cedar Houses but vice president of college services, Ken Adams said they will be finished on time.

"Progress is going very smoothly. We're looking for students to move in as planned on September 5."

Between the new Spruce and Cedar Houses, the first residential construction Confederation College has built in 25 years will house 128 students in pods of four private rooms.

Spoken for on a first-come-first-serve basis, each pod will have its own washrooms, living areas, kitchen suites and on-site laundry facilities.

"Having up-to-date, modern facilities is really important for our recruitment and retention," Adams said.

"As a parent of students, I can tell you I'd be thrilled if my children were moving into this facility."

The residences form phase one of the college's residential expansion plan. Adams expects phase two will see another 128 rooms built once planning is complete.
