THUNDER BAY – Fifteen finalists have been named for a chance to grab five spots in July 10’s Fountain Tire Summer Classic alongside the brothers Staal and Bobby Orr.

The decision came after the close of a three-week contest that saw youngsters between the ages of nine and 14 put together videos of their best hockey moves.

The 15 vote-getters will move to the fundraising stage of the competition, with all monies collected being donated to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

The top three fundraising kids will automatically earn entry into the epic road hockey game, while the other two spots will be determined by a random draw.

For every $20 raised, the remaining participants will be given a ballot for a shot at one of the two spots. Team members will be named on June 9.

“We’re pleased to announce that each contestant has an individual, online fundraising page they can share with friends, family and our community to help them fundraise,” said Lindsay Doran, an e-philanthropy officer at the foundation.

The finalists are:

  • Troy Brown
  • Spencer Bryson
  • Keaton Cristofaro
  • Kain Cristofaro
  • Jadan Desormeaux
  • Ethen Friesen
  • Erica Geddes
  • Hunter Marshall
  • Ahmed Mercan
  • Campbell Mitchell
  • Edelweiss Price
  • Aidan Somerfield
  • Thomas Stadey
  • Steven Stadey
  • Conley Trevisanutto

There’s a sixth spot up for grabs that will be handed out on June 10 at an event being held at Fountain Tire.

Open to kids between nine and 14, Summer Classic hopefuls will have to take part in a number of different challenges, including hockey shooting, ladder golf and Frisbee curling.

Registration is limited to the first 50 entries, which can be found on Fountain Tire’s Facebook Page.

“This is the final chance to be a member of #teamstaal2017 and play with the Staals and many other celebrities – the opportunity of a lifetime! We can’t wait to watch this event on July 10,” said Fountain Tire assistant manager Jeff Hunter, a past participant at the Staal Foundation Open, which the Summer Classic will kick off at Whitewater Golf Club.
