THUNDER BAY — Ontario's environment ministry says laboratory tests failed to detect toxins in a sample of blue-green algae that was recovered last month at Surprise Lake.

The lake, in Gorham Township just north of Thunder Bay, was the fourth and last body of water in the District of Thunder Bay where blue-green algae was discovered this summer.

Samples from Surprise, nearby Warnica Lake in Jacques Township, and Madelaine Lake in the far western portion of the district all tested negative for toxins that can be harmful to humans and animals.

Testing of the sample from Icarus Lake, close to Madelaine Lake, was inconclusive.
