Suspect arrested after White River armed robbery

Highway 17 was closed west of Marathon for several hours after the robbery.

WHITE RIVER, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police took a suspect into custody early Tuesday after an armed robbery in White River.

Officers from the Superior East detachment responded at about 3:20 a.m. to a report of a robbery at a local business.

The victim reported the robber fled the scene westbound prior to the arrival of police.

Just before 8:00 a.m., members of the OPP Marathon detachment and the OPP Northwest Emergency Response Team located and arrested a suspect.

Details of the arrest were not immediately made available.

However, the Trans-Canada Highway was ordered closed to traffic between Marathon and Terrace Bay for several hours after the robbery.
