THUNDER BAY – City police have arrested and charged a driver involved in a motor-vehicle collision earlier this month.

On Jan. 14, a Thunder Bay Police Service officer attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Court Street near Ambrose Street.

The person driving a black sedan ignored the officer’s lights and continued down Court Street.

The officer was in the process of stopping when he observed the vehicle striking a van that was travelling southbound near Renco Foods.

The vehicle came to a stop in the 100 block of Court Street South. Police say the driver fled on foot eastbound through the parking lot of Renco Foods toward Johnson Avenue.

Police were unable to locate the suspect following a search of the area.

On Wednesday, according to a police release issued Thursday morning, an officer observed the accused driving in the area of Christie and McLeod streets just before 11 a.m.

Police say the accused was known to be a disqualified driver with outstanding warrants.

The officer attempted a traffic stop on McIntosh Street, at which point the accused exited the vehicle he was driving and fled on foot down a back alley.

The officer engaged in a foot pursuit and arrested the suspect on the sidewalk area of Christie Street.

Stephan Parr has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited and resisting a peace officer.

As a result of the ongoing investigation into the Jan. 14 incident, the suspect was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop after accident and flight from peace officer.

He appeared in court Thursday morning and was remanded into custody with a future court date.
