THUNDER BAY — City police have arrested a 62-year-old man on child pornography charges.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers searched a home in the 100 block of Riverview Drive on Wednesday morning, after the service's cyber crimes unit started an investigation last month into a local internet user being suspected of having digital files consistent with child exploitation.

The search led to electronic devices being seized and a suspect was arrested.

The accused, Ian Thomas Smout, is charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography. He appeared in bail court later Wednesday and remains in custody.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
