THUNDER BAY – A suspect arrested in a murder case earlier this year remains in custody.

Nicholas Necan, charged in the January death of 60-year-old George James Gerrard, appeared via video at the Thunder Bay Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon.

Necan is charged with second-degree murder, failure to comply with an undertaking and two counts of assault with a weapon. He remains in custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail under an automatic detention order.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were called to the Casablanca Apartments on January 28 and found the suspect allegedly assaulting the victim. Necan was said to be combative with police and threatened an officer and a woman at the scene.

Necan is scheduled to appear in video court again on April 25.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
