Impaired driving may be a bad idea, but it was only one of at least two poor decisions made by one local motorist early Friday morning.
His second was backing his vehicle into a police cruiser.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say the suspected impaired driver backed into the cruiser at the intersection of Balmoral Street and Oliver Road just before 1 a.m.
Police say officers had observed the car driving in an unsafe manner as it travelled westbound on Oliver Road.
Police say the vehicle made an abrupt stop in the Oliver and Balmoral intersection before reversing and driving into the police cruiser.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
The 49-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failure to provide a breath sample.
