IGNACE, ON — A Dryden man faces half a dozen criminal charges after OPP laid down a spike belt to stop a vehicle on Highway 17.

The incident began Saturday evening when a citizen complained about a vehicle being driven erratically in the English River area.

Further information obtained by OPP revealed there was a possible domestic situation involving the driver and a passenger.

Officers located the westbound pickup truck described by the complainant, but the driver failed to stop.

After police deployed a spike belt farther down the highway, the pickup swerved into a parked cruiser, narrowly missing an officer before stopping. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene on numerous charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and forcible confinement.

Police said the female passenger in the pickup truck was taken to hospital for medical evaluation.
