Suspicious death

THUNDER BAY -- City police are investigating a suspicious death in the Intercity area. Thunder Bay Police Service officers were called on Wednesday to a wooded area at the end of Field Street, where they found a man with vital signs absent.

THUNDER BAY -- City police are investigating a suspicious death in the Intercity area.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were called on Wednesday to a wooded area at the end of Field Street, where they found a man with vital signs absent. He is described as a 65-year-old Native Canadian.

"This morning Thunder Bay Police received a phone call that some individuals were walking in the area at the end of Field Street. They came across a male who was (found to have) vital signs absent. When our officers arrived they confirmed the man was deceased and so far the investigation has led to the identity of this male," said Const. Julie Tilbury, police spokeswoman.

The name of the man won't be released until next-of-kin have been notified.

Police remain on the scene investigating. The cause of death is not being made public.

"Currently it is still be treated as a suspicious death, but we are still awaiting on the post-mortem," Tilbury said, unable to say why the death was suspicious.

She added she's not sure of the details of the post-mortem, including when it will be held.
