TORONTO – Eighteen points from Ally Burke was encouraging, but not nearly enough of her teammates found their scoring touch in Friday night’s regular-season opener.

The Toronto Metropolitan Bold pulled away in the second half, celebrating a home-opening 70-53 win to kick off the 2023-24 campaign on a high note.

Catrina Garvey put up a team-high 16 points and chipped in five assists, and teammate Haley Fedick had a double-double, scoring 11 and hauling in 11 boards.

Paula Lopez had nine for Lakehead and Hana Whalen and Eva Guilera had six apiece. Rookie Kelly-Ann Coulumbe had 10 rebounds in her Thunderwolves debut.

Lakehead and Toronto Metropolitan will wrap up their two-game series on Saturday night.

The Thunderwolves welcome the York Lions to the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse next Friday and Saturday night.
