THUNDER BAY – Diane Petryna is shifting gears.

The owner of Take A Hike said she is closing the long-time, award-winning Bay and Algoma outdoors store on April 19 and will re-open on May 4 as Take 2 Boutique, an outlet focusing on fashionable and functional women’s clothing.

She’ll also be selling jewelry, gifts and accessories.

“It's at the Take 2 Boutique where top quality outdoor and women's fashion brands will come together and expert personal shoppers will be available to help assemble wardrobes that complement each woman's natural beauty, and unique lifestyle."

The Take a Hike brand won’t completely disappear, as Petryna said it will continue to be used for men’s wear and outdoor products.

"We'll continue to offer men the products they love most, including Kuhl and Royal Robbins pants, Exofficio quick dry shirts and underwear, and lifetime warrantied Darn Tough socks. The store will also remain the perfect place for men to purchase gifts for the women in their lives," she said.

Petryna first opened Take a Hike in 1996 in downtown Fort William, moving to Bay Street in 2010, a controversial move spurred by crime in the original neighbourhood.

Take a Hike will be holding a clearance sale starting April 1.
