THUNDER BAY -- A community kitchen might just have the perfect gift for local foodies.
A new cookbook called Home Made”launched Tuesday. It features more than 75 recipes from local restaurants like the Hoito, Caribou and Lot 66. All proceeds from the book go to Our Kids Count, a community kitchen that helps families make nutritious meals.
Executive director Gladys Berringer said it’s always great when a fundraising effort ties in with what the charity is doing.
While people might think a professional chef’s recipe might be a little daunting to tackle, the book is easy to use.
“I think people will find that these are really easy to follow,” she said.
Johnny de Bakker is one of the creators of the project. He said launching the book at Christmas is a great time considering how many families will use Our Kids Count during the holiday season.
“I think food brings people together and it helps nourish people,” he said.
The book was put together by local designer Heather Cranston and features her hand-drawn artwork.
Each page was sponsored by a local business.
It’s available at several stores including Metro, The Kitchen Nook and Brent Park.
