THUNDER BAY -- A 15-hour, citywide Internet outage appears to be over.

Tbaytel officials confirmed that much of its services had been restored just after 2 a.m. Wednesday. The outage, which seemed to impact users randomly across Thunder Bay, surfaced Tuesday morning.

The issue is being blamed on what Tbaytel calls “a significant increase in network traffic” that resulted in a capacity issue.

That led to a malfunction in various components that manage network traffic.

The affected components were replaced and reconfigured overnight.

Tbaytel says it will continue to monitor its systems to ensure stability, but adds that traffic is now being processed without issues.

Business customers still experiencing issues are asked to report the trouble to technical support for further investigation by calling 623-4400.
