TBPS, first responders crush 22 push ups challenge

Local police and other emergency service agencies took on the 22 push ups challenge.

The local police force has joined a viral awareness campaign and brought other first responders with them.

The 22 push up challenge is an awareness campaign created based on the statistic that every day 22 veterans and others effected by post-traumatic stress disorder commit suicide.

The concept is similar to the ice-bucket challenge that successfully raised significant awareness and money for ALS research.

Unlike the ice bucket challenge, the 22 pushups challenge requires the person challenged to commit to 22 pushups every day for 22 days. Participants record themselves doing the pushups and post it to the social media network they were challenged on.

On Friday Sept. 9 the Thunder Bay Police Service revealed its 22 pushups promotional video.

While produced by the police service, the promotional video features participation from several local emergency service agencies.

"We were pleasantly surprised with the support from all the agencies and their members," reads a Facebook post by the Thunder Bay Police Service. "We invite anyone in the community to take up the 22 push up challenge. GO FOR IT!!!!!

The video also promotes the upcoming event I Run and Rock, a five or 10 kilometre run or walk around Boulevard Lake set for Saturday, Sept. 17.
