Donations continue to come in for flood relief efforts.

Local teachers unions and their affiliates from the Lakehead and Catholic school boards presented a cheque on Monday to the local Red Cross.

The educators witnessed first-hand the devastation to students, families, and entire neighborhoods following the May 28 floods.  Collectively, they raised $28,000 for the relief efforts, with help from their provincial and national organizations.

Rob Kilgour is the District Branch manager for the Canadian Red Cross and said they're working with the city's newly-formed Disaster Relief Committee to make sure the donations are eligible for two-for-one matching dollars from the province.

Maria Kullman, with the Office Employees Union local 454, said the donation has been in the works for some time.  And with the flood being overwhelming for families, she said every dollar helps.

The city and the Salvation Army have asked that all flood relief donations from this point forward go to the city's Disaster Relief Fund.
