Teen arrested after Mac's robbery

15-year-old suspect allegedly starts fight when clerk refuses to hand over money, flees and is arrested a few blocks away from the Waterloo Street convenience store police say was robbed on Wednesday evening.

THUNDER BAY -- A Summer Beaver First Nations teen is behind bars after an attempted robbery at a  Waterloo Street Mac's Convenience Store.

Thunder Bay Police, in a release issued early Thursday morning, said the 15-year-old suspect entered the store at about 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday and demanded cash from the clerk, who refused. The suspect, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, allegedly punched the clerk and a fight ensued. The suspect fled the scene and was taken into custody a few blocks away.

The teen was charged with robbery and breaching his probation.

The clerk sustained minor injuries in the altercation. Police say the investigation continues.
