Teen assaults officers during arrest

A 17-year-old female from Fort Hope First Nation assaulted a security guard at a south side hotel and two police officers during arrest, with a flip flop used as a weapon during the altercation

THUNDER BAY — A Fort Hope First Nation teen is facing several charges after attacking several people and police officers while in custody. 

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a south side hotel Thursday evening at approximately 9:45 p.m. for reports of a teen damaging property and attacking people. 

Arriving officers learned a female teen tried to force her way into someone else’s taxi. The teen was led out of the taxi and ended up attacking a security guard who intervened. 

The teen was located by police at 10 p.m. and before being taken into custody she assaulted one of the officers. 

After being taken into custody the teen assaulted a second officer. 

The 17-year-old female who cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act had been charged with one count of assault, one count of assault with a weapon, and three counts of assaulting a peace officer. 

The teen is expected to appear in bail court on Friday.
