Teen charged in single vehicle collision that sent one person to hospital

A Fort William First Nation teen is facing several charges after a collision in Shuniah sent another teen to hospital with serious injuries.

SHUNIAH, Ont. - A single vehicle collision in Shuniah has left one teen with serious injuries and another facing several charges.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers in the Thunder Bay detachment responded to reports of a single vehicle collision on Sunnyside Beach Road on the night of Sept. 7 just before 11 p.m.

Shuniah Fire and Emergency Services, along with Superior North EMS, also attended the scene. It was determined that the driver of an SUV lost control, which resulted in the vehicle rolling over several times.

A 17-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver and two other passengers did not sustain injuries.

Police have charged a 17-year-old female from Fort William First Nation with a novice driver having a blood alcohol content above zero and failing to surrender a license.

The investigation is ongoing.
