HEARST, Ont. — Two young people from Saskatchewan will appear in court Wednesday on multiple charges related to a joyride that took them from Alberta to Hornepayne.

OPP on Tuesday released details of an incident that saw an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl apprehended on Aug.10 following a police shutdown of Highway 631 between Highway 11 and Hornepayne.

The pair had been travelling in a pickup truck reported stolen from the Edmonton area.

Last Friday, the operator of a gas bar in Beardmore contacted OPP about a fuel theft, and said the suspects were eastbound on Highway 11.

At Hearst, police unsuccessfully attempted to stop the vehicle, but after the OPP Emergency Response Team and a canine unit were deployed, the pair was located and arrested following the closure of Highway 631 for several hours.

The accused man is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, racing a motor vehicle, flight from police, theft and other charges.

The girl faces several charges including theft, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of an identity document and two counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.
