Two teens were sent to hospital Thursday night after a collision between a pick-up truck and a transport truck at the Harbour Expressway and Memorial Avenue intersection.

A 16-year-old female passenger in the pick-up was ejected from her vehicle in the crash. Both she and the 17-year-old female driver have since been released from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Police say the pick-up endured extensive front-end damage, while the transport was damaged on the driver side.

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene to help clean up a resulting fuel spill. The 17-year-old pick-up truck driver has been charged with a red-light offence, her passenger with not wearing a seatbelt.

Police said it’s an unfortunate reminder of the importance of wearing a seatbelt.

“Not only is it the law, but the seatbelt will keep you in the vehicle and hopefully minimize injury associated with a collision,” police spokeswoman Julie Tilbury said in a release.
